Summary of Incident:
On April 8, 2009, the Tomah Police Department received information of a
suicidal subject who was armed with a loaded pistol at 401 N. Glendale
Avenue in the City of Tomah. Officers arrived on scene and began to
secure the immediate area. Phone contact was made with the subject and
he claimed he had multiple weapons and C-4 explosives. The area was
cordoned off and the Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit was activated.
Police negotiators were able to convince the subject to exit the
apartment. The subject exited the apartment and was given immediate and
specific commands from the police. The subject failed to comply and
attempted to reenter the apartment, at which time less-lethal means were
used to take the subject into custody. No weapons or explosives were
located. The subject was taken to Tomah Memorial Hospital for medical
treatment.
The Tomah Police Department received assistance from The Wisconsin
State Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Tomah Fire Department and
the Tomah Area Ambulance Service.
