NEWS RELEASE
Date of Release: 11-25-09
Date/Time of Incident: 11-25-09 / 11:33PM
Type of Incident: Safety Lockdown
Place of Occurrence: Tomah High School and Tomah Memorial Hospital
Summary of Incident:
On 11-25-09 at 11:33PM, Tomah Officers responded to the area of Tomah
Memorial Hospital after receiving information that a possibly suicidal
subject was armed with a loaded handgun and was going to the hospital.
Based on this information a public safety lockdown was immediately
activated at both the Tomah Memorial Hospital and the Tomah High School,
based on close geographical location and other obvious public safety
concerns. Tomah Officers were able to determine the possibly armed
subject was already inside the hospital. Officers made contact with this
subject and the subject was taken into custody without incident. The
subject was not in possession of a firearm but did have a handgun with
ammunition in a vehicle located in front of the hospital. Tomah Officers
verified the location of the handgun and determined there was no longer
a public safety concern. The Tomah Memorial Hospital and the Tomah High
School were notified and both facilities resumed normal operating
procedures. The lockdown of each location lasted approximately eleven
minutes.
